Homeschool Winter Olympics Day

March 6, 2010

This was our first Winter Olympics in which we had snow!  The one we did in Kansas we had to improvise A LOT!
But the snow was pretty iffy. We had to postpone our original date because of having our baby early!  The snow would have been perfect, but it would have been colder and actually windy which is unusual in Michigan.  Because of the birth, we delayed the event a month and prayed for snow!  And even though there's been a week of 38 degree sunny days, the nights were in the lower 20s and we are in the woods, so we had Snow!  Yippee!  It was slushy, but still worked out great!  Plus it was nice and warm!

We were the host country - Canada. Therefore, French and English signs were made.

Isaac's first Olympics! He mostly slept through the whole thing though!

The torch relay and lighting of the "cauldron".

Afghanistan

Bahrain

China

Spain

Canada (The grandparents were visiting from Kansas and got to be part of the team too!)

U.S.A.

The Biathlon - we threw snowballs at a tree for the rifle target shooting and then ran a lap around the house for the cross country, 3 times.

Slalom was pulling one of the little kids in a sled through a course through the trees.

Curling because of the slush became a throwing contest with snowballs.

Snow boarding (down our little berm)

Hockey (soccer in the snow, everyone forgot their brooms)

We even had medals and an awards ceremony!  I won't post all the pictures, but here's some.
Cosette and Sadie are here getting Gold and Silver.

Cale is getting a silver here.

Here's the gold medal hockey team.

Here we are cheering them all on. What a great day. Thank you Lord for the fun you allowed us to have with our friends.

1 Corinthians

23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
