Sailing in Michigan

September/October 2009

Saturday, grandma and grandpa put their boat into Lake Macatawa in Holland, Michigan.

We caught up to them later in the day when they were ready to actually put in and took a little evening sail and then we got some dinner together.  The next day they were going to take it all the way out to the big lake - Lake Michigan.  See the nice weather?  Say, "bye bye!"

G&G didn't get far up the coast before they had to find a harbor, Fall weather had arrived full force!  They had to stay in harbor for a couple of days while it rained and was too windy to sail, swells up to 10-15 feet, or something like that.  They had planned on sailing for 2-3 weeks, but finally had to call it quits after 9 days of getting to sail a little bit and then harbor for a day or two.

We met them at Whitehall, October 5th, and Mandi really really wanted to sail out on the big Lake, so we did.  Mark gets a little motion sick, so we ended up dropping him off and then sailing a little long.  God gave us one beautiful day sandwiched between rain and cold!

Sadie was lulled to sleep.

Boy, was she out!

We decided to continue G&G's journey by automobile.  They had hoped to make it to the Manitou Islands.
